I just created a new blog on SAP’s SCN about my experiences as a Busness Process Expert (BPX) working on an open-source / community project – this case, ESME. I think that ESME is a unique project in that those involved are not just developers but also business users and others who look at things from a business-perspective rather than a purely technical one. It this new mixture in the ESME team – as well as its origins in plurk – that have fascinated since I started working on this project.
This new approach is critical for today’s corporate environment. As I responded in one comment:
As I work on ESME, I realize that BPXs have to expand their horizons. As the applications / services that are used by business users evolve and include sources outside the firewall, BPXs must respond as well.
What those BPXs who make this transition have to be aware of, is that the environment outside the firewall are based on similar but still different rules. The skill set that might be appropriate in an internal setting might not be totally transferable to this new world. It is a challenge that BPXs should face. In my opinion, it is a change that BPXs must make if they wish to stay in tune with the business users they serve.
